Impact Solutions and Heriot-Watt

Impact Solutions is an independent UKAS accredited laboratory that supports industry in testing and developing new materials, products and methods. Impact Solutions also has an innovations department which has been successful in spinning out multiple start-up businesses including ReVentas and CellMine. In our next endeavour, Impact Solutions are working with scientists at Heriot-Watt University and the Continuum Lab to advance and accelerate polymer biodegradation testing, in the UK and globally, sparking innovation in the area.

Current Biodegradation Standard Testing Methods:

1. Not designed for polymeric substances.
2. Take up to 2 years to complete.
3. Generate limited data output for further development.

To address this Impact Solutions and Heriot-Watt University aims to:

1. Create high-throughput testing methods to improve turnaround time and speed up product development.
2. Develop methods to generate advanced and complex datasets to further understand the biodegradation process of your product.

How Impact Solutions aims to achieve this:

1. Miniaturised standard testing to increase screening capacity.
2. In vitro biodegradation testing using bespoke immobilised enzymes.
3. Using flow chemistry to allow for continuous analysis.
